July 2001
Palmetto SP-Texas
20-22 July  About 4 hours W of Houston
This park is a good place to kick back, do some camping, hiking, and side trips. The nature trail is excellent. Biking is really limited since trail riding is not allowed. The sites are all good with some better than the others. Side trips are suggested into Shiner. The town is an old one with a fairly good attempt at refurbishment. Be sure to try to see the Spoetzl Brewery where Shiner Beer is made. Tours are not available on weekends for some weird reason. Be sure to check out the Home Plate Sports Restaurant for some good eats. Just ask anyone for directions.

Rhonda at the Water Tower
Tower built in the 30's by the CCC
Old wagon wheel grown right through a tree
Time out for a shade and juice break
I think we are at the end of the trail
This sure is a neat old water tower
Rhonda found some cool rocks and shade
Togetherness is the whole idea
Relaxing on a warm day
Time to get in some reading
We went swimming on the San Marcos River
And went wading in a spring

Shiner Brewery. They sure make a good Bock...
